W-7 From "What's in it for Me?" to Faculty Ownership of Assessment
There is a continuum of faculty response to assessment that ranges from resistance, resentment, and disengagement to a culture in which assessment is intimately connected to important faculty work, is valued, and is owned and led by faculty. An important element in this continuum is the development of faculty expertise in assessment. This workshop will model faculty development processes that accommodate faculty thinking, concerns, and practices at one end of the continuum and begin to move faculty to the other end, where they claim both ownership and leadership in assessment. Workshop content will include theory and research on faculty roles and assessment--with important implications for institutional management of faculty development.
