W-6 Creativity and Artistic Practice: Engaging Faculty in Institutional Transformation

Type of workshop:
Pre-conference
Name(s):
Douglas Kearney, faculty, School of Critical Studies; Jacqui Bobak, Interim Assistant Provost and faculty, Herb Alpert School of Music; Justine Garrett Academic, Affairs Manager, California Institute of the Arts

This workshop demonstrates the use of creativity as a tool to promote vibrant teaching and to affirm the importance of student-centered educational practice. Along the way, it also sheds light on accreditation as a pathway to transformation. All three presenters are respected artists and educational leaders in the CalArts community. Employing a variety of art forms and classroom practices, the presenters will help workshop participants rethink how they can creatively engage students and faculty at their institutions - and even use active learning methodologies to convey new concepts to the institution's WASC steering committee.
