This presentation highlights two institutions' successes and failures in identifying and responding to the needs of adult students. At Cal Lutheran, efforts focused on engaging adult learners in their own learning and training the faculty who teach adult student to respond to their needs in the classroom. An overview of specific metrics and interpretation will be included. At IAC, faculty worked with Principles of Adult Learning (PALs), examining course syllabi to discern the strategies and activities that address the adult learner. Attendees will have an opportunity to work with PALs, and acquire greater understanding of how to instill in adult learners the seed of excitement about lifelong learning.
