Retention: Different Perspectives – Different Challenges

Retention is a common concern but approaches can vary. Cal Lutheran University and Cal Poly Pomona each developed a collaborative, comprehensive process that was consistent with their university's goals and responsive to their constituencies. Cal Lutheran representatives will present their undergraduate retention plan, share the data, and discuss the software program used. At Cal Poly Pomona, the goal was to move beyond simply setting targets to an examination of marketing, online instruction, remediation, and advising. The effort resulted in mandatory orientatation, First Year Experience programs, enhanced support for veterans, and other advances. Presenters will share their successes and advise about challenges that accompany such efforts.
