This session will feature two regional perspectives, one focused on creating a regional collaboration and the other on measuring learning outcomes in the workplace. Dr. Ferrari will describe how the partnership between the Monterey County Business Council and the 23 higher education and research institutions in the Monterey Peninsula region was formed. He will explain the methods that were used to build a viable program and also reveal some key findings including a demonstration of a website created for the collaboration, brochures, video clips and the California Homeland Security Consortium “ribbon-cutting.” Going to the programmatic level, Sheila Thomas and Wendy Martin from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) will describe the process of measuring learning outcomes in the workplace for CSULB graduates. They will discuss the methodologies selected including data collection from various sources. Social media outlets will be reviewed as potential data sources. They will describe the process of working with academic departments, the Alumni Association, Career Center, and local employers to correlate learning outcomes to workplace needs. Key findings will be revealed as well as suggestions for next steps.
