The scholarship of teaching is one of the four pillars in the Boyer Model of Scholarship. Efforts to promote the scholarship of teaching often take the form of involving faculty in curriculum development and in the creation of teaching materials. However, faculty engagement in the assessment process is also a rich strategy for promoting faculty scholarship. Avenues which have been explored to accomplish this at one institution are presented, including a pilot initiative involving the training of faculty as raters of student work and participation of faculty in the creation of assignment rubrics. Ultimately, the goal of these initiatives is the creation of a culture of scholarship linked to teaching and assessment -effective triangulation with significant value added potential. Takeaways include information on approaches to linkinking scholarship and assessment, related processes, results of these initiatives, and lessons learned.
