Continuous Improvement: Transforming Cultures of Teaching to Cultures of Learning
This interactive presentation will involve facilitators and participants in a discussion of processes that can move higher education from the traditional teaching and research paradigm to a paradigm based on student learning and continuous improvement. Assessment of student learning and a focus on continuous improvement of the educational experiences require educational leaders to reevaluate practices in both universities and community colleges. Participants will learn to identify and reconcile cultural dilemmas in which the seemingly opposing paradigms and values of various stakeholders are at issue. If not recognized and reconciled, these dilemmas may block development of a culture of learning; if recognized and engaged, they may be a means for innovation, creative change and positive transformation.
